THE SINGING TREE:
Many Voices, One World

SPECIAL FOCUS: Appreciation of Culture through Folk Tale, Art, & Music

The Singing Tree

Fascinating folk tales, ethnic design, and traditional music transport the audience to three unique countries in this spellbinding exploration of diversity in "culture."

In a presentation enjoyed by children and adults, each central character uses a personal strength to overcome adversity. In "The Night Troll", from Iceland, a girl bravely sings to trick a hungry troll. Then, from Mali, a farmer must use his wits to overcome the powerful guitar playing of a Niger River spirit, "Zin-Kibaru."

"The Singing Tree," from Guatemala, celebrates a tree's desire for self expression, resulting in the creation of the marimba. Storytelling through culturally representative hand, shadow, and rod puppets inspires respect and curiosity about the endless diversity in our own cultural communities and world.
